SIP calls on all stakeholders to partake in ecological environment protection and improvement, trying to instill environmental concepts into the everyday life and industrial production.
Recently, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems (Suzhou) Co Ltd, a branch of American multinational automotive supplier BorgWarner, made Jiangsu province’s first list of zero carbon factories, setting a new example for green development.
SIP has instituted a set of policies to encourage carbon emission reduction in industries, energy utilization, construction, transportation and technology development and application. It has created a platform called “Carbon Network” to provide data for carbon management. Meanwhile, the park provides various forms of support such as training and guidance to help enterprises carry out ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices and transform to green development.
SIP encourages the development of “zero-waste factories”, aiming to set a number of examples for solid waste reduction and recycling. SEW-Motors (Suzhou) Co Ltd, a branch of SEW Eurodrive, has managed to reduce hazardous waste by 700 tons each year by using an innovative concentrated emulsified liquid supply system. Daikin Device (Suzhou) Co Ltd, founded by Japanese air conditioning manufacturer Daikin Industries Ltd, has reduced hazardous waste by 2,400 cubic meters annually by carrying out classified management of solid waste.
For waters, SIP has been deepening the implementation of the “river chief” and “l(fā)ake chief” mechanisms to ensure effective regular patrols over rivers and lakes and their banks for maintaining good water environment. So far this year, 17,000 patrols have been carried out under these mechanisms.
Moreover, SIP organizes diverse events and campaigns frequently to raise the public’s awareness of environmental protection. For instance, a three-month painting competition held this year increased numerous children’s awareness of environmental protection, and the Dongsha Lake Ecological Civilization Practice Base has received more than 15,000 visitors since its opening last July.
